SharePoint Lunch & Learns for Power Platform

VITA is coordinating a Microsoft - SharePoint administrator learning opportunity for Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) employees on May 14 and 16. This two-day virtual workshop, held from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day, is targeted for SharePoint site administrators, content owners and power users. The focus will be on the features and functionality available in the SharePoint online communication and collaboration platform. Day 1:  Tuesday, May 14, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.:  Registration link 

Day one of this two-day workshop is a repeat of the one-day SharePoint workshop VITA hosted in November 2023. Participants who attended the November session may choose to attend this session as a refresher or only register for Day two.  Day one topics will include:  

  • Building site pages   
  • Page sections  
  • Creating sections in your page  
  • Collapsible and linkable sections
  • Web parts
  • Connect to existing content in your site
  • Single documents
  • Libraries and lists 
  • All content in a certain location or with a search query
  • Link to external sites or content

  • Creating views   
  • Creating list columns   
  • Permissions at the list and library level   
  • Connecting and collaborating through Microsoft Teams   
  • Versioning and recycle bin

Day two of this workshop will build on the skills learned:  

  • Modernization of SharePoint sites  
  • Teams integration  
  • Communications – Create news posts in SharePoint and share to Teams channel, email, etc.  
  • JSON lists and libraries 

Microsoft learning opportunities: 2024 Spring/Summer 

Training opportunities for all Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) employees in Spring and Summer of 2024. The 90-minute no-cost sessions are focused on Microsoft Forms, Approvals, Whiteboard and OneNote. Various dates and times are available for employees to choose. Registration is open; click the registration link beside the date and time for the class.

Microsoft Forms: 

This course introduces Microsoft Forms and demonstrates how to create surveys, quizzes, and polls. Learning objectives:  

  • Understand navigation and functionality in Microsoft Forms  
  • Create forms, quizzes and polls  
  • Change visual layout  
  • Configure access and sharing settings  
  • Learn question types  
  • Make use of branching 
  • Analyze responses

Microsoft Approvals: 

Approvals in Microsoft Teams is a way to streamline all your requests and processes with your team. You'll be able to create new approvals, view the ones sent your way and see all your previous approvals in one place. Learning objectives:   

  • Describe the capabilities and functionality of Approvals in Microsoft Teams  
  • Create and manage approval processes using the Approvals application  
  • Create ways to take your approvals further with Microsoft Power Automate

Microsoft Whiteboard:  

Microsoft Whiteboard is the collaborative digital canvas in Microsoft 365 for effective and engaging meetings. Use Whiteboard tools to maximize outcomes with ink, sticky notes, templates and more. Learning objectives:   

  • Understand what Microsoft Whiteboard offers  
  • Create and annotate a new whiteboard using the Microsoft Teams’ meeting process  
  • Format, share and collaborate with others using Whiteboard

Microsoft OneNote:  

Learn about Microsoft OneNote, a digital note-taking application that provides a single place for keeping all your notes, research, plans, and information. Notes are easy to organize, print, and share, and you can search and find important information quickly. Learning objectives:  

  • Discover OneNote versions and the differences between them  
  • Navigate OneNote and organize content across notebooks, sections and pages  
  • Learn how to bring different types of content together  
  • Understand how to create a notebook and format notes   
  • Use OneNote to organize meeting notes   
  • Set up OneNote for collaboration
