Suppliers bring new technology to state government under new multisupplier IT model

Nineteen new services available on July 1, with more slated for release
(RICHMOND) -

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) released 19 additional technology services yesterday under the new multisupplier technology model launched on March 1. Commonwealth agencies who purchase their IT services from VITA can now choose from these new options to better support their business needs and improve services offered to citizens.

For the first time since launching the new model, suppliers are ready to offer different and improved services to agency customers.

“Today is an important milestone as we mature our technology supplier model,” said Chief Information Officer of the Commonwealth Nelson Moe. “VITA continues to make progress in how technology services are offered, and we look forward to making new, modern technology available to our agencies monthly going forward.”

For information on VITA's services, see the VITA website here.

These services are available to executive branch agencies through VITA’s new online service catalog, which initially launched on Dec. 15, 2018, and was also updated with the addition of more services. The catalog provides agencies with interactive rates and order status information that was not previously available.

“We have not just modernized our services, we have used this new model to modernize the way agencies purchase them to make it easier to do business overall,” said Moe.

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) serves as VITA’s multisourcing service integrator (MSI) responsible for coordinating and monitoring activities of seven other suppliers to launch these new services.

“We are very proud to be VITA’s partner in this transformational change,” said Bob Genter, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Civilian Markets Customer Group, SAIC. “Transparency, monitoring and the prioritization of projects are critical to a modern enterprise service delivery model. The enhanced control and clarity provided by these new services will improve decision-making and provide significant cost savings. Each of these services is important individually, but combined – and in this timeframe – they represent an incredible step forward.”

“Being able to launch these new services is a sign that we made the right choice with this new model for IT and that it is on the right track,” said Moe. “Providing agencies with the choice and flexibility they need to do business is a primary focus. As we move forward, we will continue to work closely with the agencies to ensure that we are giving them greater visibility into what they’re buying, what services they receive and how much they cost.”

VITA began the transition from a single supplier for technology services to eight suppliers in August 2018, with SAIC serving as the MSI. The full model was launched on March 1, 2019. Additional suppliers include: Verizon for voice and data services, Atos for managed security services, Tempus Nova for messaging services, Iron Bow for end-user computing, Xerox for managed printing services, Perspecta for mainframe services, and Unisys for server, storage and data center services.
