The two final contracts have been awarded by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) as it moves the state’s information technology (IT) infrastructure to a multisourcing model.

VITA awarded a five-year $189.8 million contract to Iron Bow Technologies for end-user computing services such as personal computers, laptops and tablets and a five-year $30.2 million contract to Xerox for print services.

“Awarding these two final contracts marks significant success in our efforts to modernize and enhance technology services for state Executive Branch agencies and their 55,000+ employees,” said Nelson Moe, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Commonwealth. “When this new model is fully implemented, the agencies will be better able to serve the citizens and businesses of the Commonwealth.”

Moe said the next steps include setting up the infrastructure with a multisourcing service integrator, which will coordinate, monitor and report on activities of suppliers. VITA will continue oversight to ensure governance, project management and security standards are met and VITA services meet agencies’ business needs efficiently and effectively.

“VITA began this journey in 2015 when we realized the need to move from one long-term infrastructure services provider to multiple suppliers with shorter term contracts. We have completed the procurements we said we would,” he added. “We are moving to a more agile system that will permit us to enhance and offer new services.”

VITA subject matter experts and procurement staff led the effort, with input from agency representatives. They developed the requirements and request for proposals. The in-depth reviews and evaluations of the proposals submitted required several months of dedicated effort. “VITA staff members have been dedicated to this project since the beginning, and I admire their hard work and dedication.”

VITA already has awarded contracts for messaging, mainframe, multisourcing service integrator, managed security, network and server storage, and voice and video network services. VITA provides IT services to Executive Branch agencies and other government entities across the Commonwealth. It is responsible for IT infrastructure, governance, procurement and security.
