Public sector IT professionals gather annually for the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS) to learn from and connect with others. COVITS 2024 was our biggest conference yet in our 27-year history.

Throughout the day, we heard from inspiring speakers who covered timely IT topics including artificial intelligence, the cloud and identity management. Scott Klososky, author, futurist and consultant, shared insights about using synthetic intelligence to deliver IT projects more quickly and with higher quality. Saby Waraich, chief information officer and chief information security officer at Clackamas Community College, ended the day with an energetic address that included a selfie with the crowd as well as the inspiring story of delivering an overdue and complex public sector project.

We were also thrilled to welcome Governor Glenn Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears and Secretary of Administration, Lyn McDermid, to share their thoughtful and extensive knowledge about technology with attendees.

Governor Youngkin said: “When I look around this room and I see the wealth of talent and…all of you together, engaging in a day like this in COVITS 2024, I have tremendous optimism that we can be successful. Together we can do anything…and I’m so honored to be working with all of you together, to make Virginia the very best place to live, work, raise a family, and advance the technological capabilities in everything we do.”

Four photos arranged in a square collage of the COVITS 2024 event. One features Governor Youngkin at the podium, one features Secretary Lyn McDermid at the podium, the third is Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears at the podium, and the final photo is of featured speaker Saby Waraich posing for a selfie with the crowd of COVITS attendees behind him.
