New information technology and cybersecurity legislation goes into effect in Virginia

Starting July 1, 2022, new state laws that impact information technology (IT) and cybersecurity in the Commonwealth of Virginia are now in effect.
The first piece of legislation expands required cybersecurity incident reporting for all state and local public bodies. The second piece of legislation, among other actions, reorganizes the Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) so that it is composed of legislative and citizen/private sector members.
