VITA recognized as 2026 Top Virginia Employers for Interns

The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) has recognized 161 employers as the 2026 Top Virginia Employers for Interns, celebrating organizations across the Commonwealth that provide high impact, career-launching opportunities for students. VITA is among this year's honorees, selected for our emerging talent programs which continue to grow rapidly and set a strong example for hands-on, future-focused workforce development.
Virginia employers selected for the award excel in offering real-world learning experiences, access to leadership, structured mentorship and opportunities to earn industry certifications that prepare students for in-demand careers.
VITA's internship program continues record-breaking growth
VITA's commitment to emerging talent was reflected in this year's internship cycle, which drew more than 350 applications for 21 positions, a record number for the agency. While the application window for summer 2026 just closed, VITA's internship and early career initiatives continue to expand to meet rising student interest and evolving IT workforce needs statewide.
VITA interns gain hands-on experience in cybersecurity, application development, data analytics, project management and other critical business areas, all while working alongside state technology leaders. Many participants move into extended part-time roles or early-career pathways that support Virginia's ongoing demand for skilled IT professionals.
SCHEV will formally recognize VITA and the 160 other honorees on July 30. The Virginia Intern Day is a statewide celebration of students, employers and higher education partners that are advancing work-based learning.
