10.3.2 VITA's authority to promulgate regulations pertaining to Section 508

VITA has statutory authority to promulgate regulations to ensure that all procurements of information technology of every description meet the electronic and information technology accessibility standards of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. § 794d), as amended. 

In order to maintain maximum flexibility for the Commonwealth and in light of the ever- changing information technology market, VITA has chosen to implement the electronic and information technology accessibility standards of Section 508 through policy. VITA is committed to ensuring that all procurements of information technology purchased by VITA or on behalf of other agencies meet, to the greatest extent possible, the electronic and information technology accessibility standards of Section 508.
