The Health Information Technology Standards Advisory Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Commonwealth Enterprise Solutions Center in Chester. The committee, established by the General Assembly, will provide recommendations to the Information Technology Investment Board (ITIB). An opportunity for public input will be provided near the end of the meeting.
VITA's Commonwealth Security and Risk Management hosted the First Annual Commonwealth Information Security Conference on Nov. 2. The conference theme was “Information Security: Mission Possible!” and was a success with 113 state and local Information Security professionals in attendance. Attendees were welcomed by CIO, George Coulter, who also kicked off the conference with opening remarks. Walter Kucharski (Auditor of Pubic Accounts) started the morning session by discussing the “Top 10 COV Information Security Issues/Opportunities/Concerns/Risks.” The keynote presentation was delivered by Gino Menchini (National Strategies Incorporated), the former NYC CIO and Commissioner of the NYC Department of IT and Telecommunications, on “Government IT: The New Expectations and Challenges.” Additional conference sessions were presented by John Green (VITA), Randy Marchany (Virginia Tech), Eric Taylor (Northrop Grumman) and Bob Baskette (VITA).
The Center for Digital Government has just released the results of its 2009 Digital Cities Survey, and the City of Norfolk, Virginia has been ranked first in the nation in its population category. The prestigious survey examines how municipalities incorporate information technology into operations which better serve citizens engaging with local government. Complete Virginia top 10 honorees include the City of Virginia Beach, 6th in the 250,000+ population category; City of Norfolk, 1st, City of Alexandria, 4th, City of Hampton, 8th and City of Richmond, 10th in the 125,000-249,000 population category; City of Roanoke, 3rd in the 75,000-124,999 population category; and City of Charlottesville, 4th and City of Lynchburg 7th in the 30,000-74,999 population category.
