National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week begins Sunday, April 14

Date Posted: Friday, April 12, 2019

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week begins Sunday, April 14 and will run through Saturday, April 20. It is a week dedicated to thanking and honoring the men and women of our nation who wear the headset and provide an invaluable service as the "First of the First Responders."

Thank you to all the members of the Virginia public safety answering points (PSAP) community for the valuable service you provide to the citizens of the commonwealth. Although Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is only seven days, the praise and acknowledgement you will receive during this period is for the outstanding service you provide 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

To celebrate Virginia telecommunicators, integrated services program (ISP) staff will be hosting a statewide training event for the local PSAP communities. ISP staff, in collaboration with the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Investigative Unit, will provide an overview of the Virginia sex offender registry, navigation techniques, clarity on common misconceptions, and introduce the agency representative assigned to the unit that covers your area, who can also provide other resources and insight about the registry. These events will occur throughout the state; specific dates and information are posted at: Regional Outreach Meetings (https://www.vita.virginia.gov/integrated-services/regional-outreach/regional-outreach-meetings/).
