Questions to consider when determining whether the Surface Pro is appropriate for your staff include:
Will your agency's applications run on Windows 10?
Will your staff make a smooth transition to the functionality of Windows 10?
Will your end users have a concern with the 12" screen size as compared to a standard laptop (14") or premium (15.6") screen?
What will your agency's eligibility criteria for selecting staff to receive a Surface Pro?
What other peripheral devices are needed (docking station, Bluetooth mouse, keyboard type cover, etc.)?
Will this be the only device your staff has? Will they also need a laptop, desktop, etc.?
What is the break-even point for your agency when purchasing a Surface Pro versus a laptop or other tablet offering?
If the device needs to be returned for repairs, what will I offer my staff person during the repair time? Loaners will not be available.
Because of the larger upfront cost of the Surface Pro purchase, you are encouraged to initially order a limited number of devices for testing purposes prior to a full scale implementation.
Your agency will order the devices from VITA via eVA. Further details on ordering instructions can be found in the Ordering Process section. If you need to order more than 15 devices, please submit a work request. As a reminder, your agency will own this device throughout the device service life and is responsible for ordering a replacement device at the end of the service life.

The device comes with a three year Microsoft warranty. In addition, monthly support, including the VCCC service is provided for in the monthly fee.
The hardware is warranted through the Microsoft warranty.
Should your Surface Pro have a hardware issue, the VCCC will assist in returning the device for warranty service. In order to do this, please contact the VCCC and submit a ticket. To ensure no loss of productivity when a device is shipped offsite for hardware service, we recommend that your agency determine a back-up device strategy (e.g., have spare Surface Pro devices, have spare laptops).
The warranty life of the device is three years, based on the length of the warranty. There is no support for hardware failures after three years, but the device may continue to be used per normal VITA policies. Your agency is responsible for ordering a replacement device at the end of the device life.
There is no hardware refresh for this device. In order to refresh or replace a device, a new eVA order will need to be created.
