Standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux© (RHEL) or UNIX operating system server with 7 or more CPUs in the server supplier's standard build. Customers indicate the amount of DASD (hard drive or solid-state memory), SAN storage by tier and amount, random access memory (RAM), central processing units (CPUs), and number of cores per CPU cores required. Physical servers will be subject to monthly service charges and Hardware Service Charge (HSC) billing.

Servers outside the CESC/Disaster Recovery location or without on-premises SAN storage require RAID1 storage, at a minimum. Servers hosted at CESC may utilize DASD and/or SAN storage offerings (Tiers 1-3).

A VITA Enterprise Architecture (EA) physical server exception is required to order and deploy physical servers. Please contact the CAM for additional information regarding the physical server exception process.

Use of physical servers may not meet Executive Order 19 application virtualization policy and requirements as described in Cloud-Based Hosting Services IT Solutions Policy_EA300-01, February 04, 2019. VITA enterprise architecture (EA) guidelines, forms, and directives are available at

How to Order

Effective 12/15/18, this service can be ordered from the VITA Service Catalog in the new VITA Service Portal. To submit your request:

  • Customers who have Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) accounts (including executive branch agencies) should access the VITA Service Catalog via the VITA Service Portal to place service requests using the automated form provided in the catalog.
  • Customers who do not have COV accounts (including some local government customers) or customers who are unable to gain access to the portal may order the service by sending an e-mail to the VITA Customer Care Center (VCCC) services desk at Please include the following information:
    • The words "Service request" in the "Subject" line
    • The name of the service being ordered
    • The quantity desired (if applicable)
    • Any other information you deem relevant

If you are uncertain as to whether you have a COV account, start by trying to access the VITA Service Portal. If you are unable to do so, then use the email-to-the-VCCC method.
