Enhanced security for databases (EDS) service will provide agencies with enhanced security software for specific database instances. The EDS software does not modify the monitored databases and utilizes up to 3 percent of the CPU core on the server housing the database for each database instance monitored. Once per month per database and at no additional fee, VITA will perform EDS configuration updates in collaboration with agencies to evaluate and implement security patches. Agencies may request additional configuration changes through the work request process, which work will be priced separately.

The following conditions must be met to use the standard work request:

  1. Agencies currently must be receiving infrastructure services from VITA.
  2. This request is not part of incident resolution (i.e. to resolve and close an incident ticket).
  3. This request is not being processed through a VCCC service ticket.
  4. Each database instance and server housing database must meet the minimum requirements provided in the table in the standard form, found in the forms library. See "How To Order" for the link
  5. Each server housing the database must meet the required dependencies provided in the table in the standard form.

How to Order

Effective 12/15/18, this service can be ordered from the VITA Service Catalog in the new VITA Service Portal. To submit your request:

  • Customers who have Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) accounts (including executive branch agencies) should access the VITA Service Catalog via the VITA Service Portal to place service requests using the automated form provided in the catalog.
  • Customers who do not have COV accounts (including some local government customers) or customers who are unable to gain access to the portal may order the service by sending an e-mail to the VITA Customer Care Center (VCCC) services desk at Please include the following information:
    • The words "Service request" in the "Subject" line
    • The name of the service being ordered
    • The quantity desired (if applicable)
    • Any other information you deem relevant

If you are uncertain as to whether you have a COV account, start by trying to access the VITA Service Portal. If you are unable to do so, then use the email-to-the-VCCC method.
