The AIS Application Server (AIS-APPSVR) service offers agencies an application server platform for hosting agency applications.
The AIS-APPSVR service is implemented on the IBM WebSphere Application Server platform. The AIS-APPSVR service provides agencies with secure, robust, standards based and highly-available environments for hosting agency Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) applications. Environments can also be configured for high availability based on customer requirements. AIS-APPSVR eliminates the need for agency staff to install and support their own application server infrastructure. The AIS-APPSVR service includes horizontal and vertical clustering, allowing for robust, scalable, and highly-available applications.
Pricing for the AIS-APPSVR service is based on a combination of AIS-APPSVR core and server charges. The AIS team will collaborate with each customer to define the optimal configuration based on agency needs.
AIS-APPSVR service pricing is based on AIS-APPSVR cores. An AIS-APPSVR core is the unit of measure for the software and support included with the AIS-APPSVR service. AIS-APPSVR cores are shared between customer production and non-production servers. A minimum configuration of 0.5 cores is required for production servers. A minimum configuration of 0.1 cores is required for non-production servers.
For invoicing, the number of AIS-APPSVR cores assigned to a customer is combined into an AIS-APPSVR core quantity total. The AIS-APPSVR core quantity total is multiplied by the AIS-APPSVR core rate to calculate the AIS-APPSVR core charge.
New customers to the AIS-APPSVR service are offered a discounted introductory rate for non-production AIS-APPSVR instances. The introductory rate applies until the first production AIS-APPSVR instance is deployed or for the first year of utilizing the service in non-production mode, whichever comes first. The introductory rates are converted to standard rates at that time.
APPSVR customers will need at least one dedicated AIX LPAR server to run the AIS-APPSVR service. The specific configuration will be determined based on customer needs.
Server, Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Access rates are based on the VITA service catalog pricing.
|Monthly Service Rates|
|AIS-APPSVR Core||$54.30 per 0.1 core|
|Minimum cores (production)||0.5 cores|
|Minimum cores (non-production)||0.1 cores|
|AIS-APPSVR Core||$27.15 per 0.1 core|
|Minimum cores||0.5 cores|

The AIS-APPSVR service is implemented on the IBM WebSphere Application Server platform. The AIS-APPSVR service provides agencies with secure, robust, standards based and highly available environments for hosting agency Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) applications.
The following list provides key benefits of implementing the AIS-APPSVR service:
VITA procures all licenses required to support AIS-APPSVR. Each customer is allocated the number of licenses required to support their AIS-APPSVR instances. This shared licensing and support approach provides customers with cost effective licensing and support for application integration.
An AIX LPAR is a virtual server configured on IBM Power hardware. AIX is the IBM UNIX operating system and LPAR stands for logical partition. Running AIX LPARs on IBM Power hardware provides optimized performance and maximizes AIS-APPSVR license efficiency.
An AIX LPAR provides a server platform that is configured for each customer and isolates customer information to the server. Customers are allocated AIX LPARs that are configured based on the number of software cores required and the amount of SAN storage needed for the AIS-APPSVR instance.
There is a minimum of 0.5 processor cores required for a production AIS-APPSVR service instance. There is a minimum of 0.1 processor cores required for a non-production AIS-APPSVR service instance. Typically, customer consumes cores in .5 increments. The partial core pricing allows AIS customers to be assigned the optimal amount of services required to support the customer instances.
No. License efficiency is one of the key differentiators for the AIS-APPSVR service. The general concept is Development and Test instances share the production license. Those instances share the production license structure and there is no separate AIS-APPSVR core charge for non-production licenses. If a production instance consumed 100% of the available cores, it is possible that the non-production instances would be running in minimal capacity mode. AIS will work with its customers to monitor AIS-APPSVR core usage.
The introductory rate applies until the first production AIS-APPSVR instance is deployed or for the first year of utilizing the service in non-production mode, whichever comes first. The introductory rates are converted to standard rates when a production instance is deployed or after one year in non-production mode.
The AIS-APPSVR service is compliant with COV security standards and best practices. It is protected by security gateway appliances that provide security, integration, control and optimized access.
Multiple environments, such as development, test, UAT and production can be implemented to fully support customer needs.
VITA AIS architects and subject matter experts will work with customers to develop a solution that integrates into the AIS middleware environment. Customers are always responsible for application development. The AIS team will collaborate with your staff and provide guidance to ensure that the implementation is carried out utilizing industry best practices.
The service is available to all executive branch agencies.
The infrastructure for this service is managed by Application Integration Services (AIS), a group within VITA that provides secure hosting and integration services for agency applications. In addition to the service, AIS provides the security, architecture expertise and application monitoring for the service infrastructure. AIS also provides 24X7 support for the production and non-production environments.
