How to order or change new & existing services or equipment

The Telecommunications Service Request (TSR) is to be used in ordering paging services. The following information must be provided on the TSR:

  • Location of requested service. Most of the time this will be your office address with the coordinator listed as the contact. If, however, you are ordering service for someone in another section of the state, then it will be necessary to indicate the users' address as the location of service. When ordering statewide or local paging to be used primarily in the Virginia Beach or Eastern Shore areas, please specify that you need Eastern Short/Virginia Beach coverage. This is necessary to ensure that you are issued a pager using the correct frequency for that area.

  • New service. When ordering new service please allow five to seven days for delivery of pagers. Your instructions should be to "initiate new pager service for number (x) of new pagers." Group the pagers by type (digital or alphanumeric) and by coverage area (local, statewide, national).

  • Upgrading Service. When changing the type of service requested for a pager it is important to remember that a new pager will be issued as the pagers are programmed to operate on different frequencies depending upon type of service. Your instructions should be to" upgrade the service on pager number (xxx) yyy-yyyy. Change from local (statewide) to statewide (national) service." "Change the type of service from digital to alphanumeric on pager number (xxx) yyy-yyyy."

  • Adding Features. When adding features to an existing pager your instructions should be " on pager number (xxx) yyy-yyyy add voicemail, standard."

  • Conversion of current service to VITA's paging service
    • Statewide and local pagers: Existing USA Mobility/Metrocall statewide and local pagers being converted will retain their numbers. Statewide and local paging service from other than USA Mobility/Metrocall must be disconnected by the agency requesting the conversion, and new service should be requested from VITA. A new pager and number will be issued.

      When converting current USA Mobility/Metrocall statewide or local pagers to the COV contract it is important to schedule the requested due date for conversion to coincide with the end date of any contract with USA Mobility/Metrocall. This is essential to avoid double billing for service. Your instructions to VITA should be to "convert the following digital (or alphanumeric) pagers to the COV contract". Group the pager numbers by type (digital or alphanumeric) and by coverage area (local, statewide). If a pager is changing the type of service or features be certain to list these separately and identify the changes being requested.

    • Nationwide pagers: Nationwide pagers from vendors other than Aquis must be disconnected by the agency requesting the conversion, and new service should be requested from VITA. A new pager and number will be issued.
