Background

VITA is moving to a multisourcing model for information technology (IT) infrastructure services. Several suppliers will work together in this new model to provide infrastructure services to Commonwealth of Virginia executive branch agencies.

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) took over infrastructure services Aug. 18. SAIC, under a statement of work (SOW) will finish most service requirements of a 13-year contract, called the Comprehensive Service Agreement, already in place with the previous supplier. SAIC will provide all infrastructure services until Dec. 15, when the model will be implemented and SAIC will serve as the multisourcing service integrator (MSI).

Representatives of state agencies have worked with VITA to set up the new model. They will serve on a wide variety of advisory and governance groups after implementation. Planning and transition to the new model continue.

VITA oversees suppliers who are providing services and carries out IT, governance and security duties assigned by Virginia State Code to protect the information entrusted to the commonwealth.

The new model is expected to provide more agile, market rate services that will permit enhancements to the services VITA offers agencies. This will permit state employees at agencies to better serve commonwealth citizens, businesses and visitors.
