  • Commonwealth IT Project Manager Overview Training
    Course Duration: 5 hours
    Date: Aug 24, 2017   Time: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm   Location: CESC

    Course Description: Mandatory Commonwealth IT Project Manager Orientation Training class is designed to acquaint the Project Manager with the Commonwealth Project Management (CPM) methodology, the context in which Commonwealth IT projects are governed, the specific processes and procedures associated with IT project governance and oversight, and the Project Manager qualification requirements administered under the Commonwealth IT Project Manager Development Program (PMDP).

    The Mandatory Commonwealth IT Project Manager Orientation Training class covers the following subjects:
    IT Governance and Oversight;
    IT Policies, Standards and Guidelines (PSGs);
    Project Manager Selection and Training; and
    Commonwealth Project Management (CPM) Methodology.

  • Commonwealth Technology Portfolio for Project Managers Training
    Course Duration: 5.5 hours
    Date: Sept 14, 2017   Time: 9:30 am - 4:00 pm   Location: CESC Room 1221

    Course Description: The Commonwealth IT Project Manager Overview Training is a prerequisite for this training.

    In the CTP for Project Managers Training, project managers will learn to:

    • Use the processes and forms in CTP from Project Initiation to Project Closeout;
    • Manage project documentation;
    • Prepare and submit Procurement Request;
    • Create project status reports; and,
    • Upload key project documents

    All IT project managers must attend the training prior to managing a Commonwealth IT project or obtaining access to the CTP.

  • Organizational Change Management
    Course Duration: 3 hours
    Date: Sept 28, 2017   Time: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm   Location: CESC Room 1221

    Course Description: This course is designed for project managers and leads who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding of organizational change management for practical application in the marketplace.

    Organizational Change Management is a structured approach to shifting individuals, teams and other entities from a current state to a desired future state. OCM incorporates people, process, tools and a number of disciplines to overcome the innate human resistance to change and facilitate successful accomplishment of a clearly defined project. At its root, OCM is focused on the “people component” of change.

  • Risk Management
    Course Duration: 3 hours

    Course Description: This course is designed for project managers and leads who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding of project risk management for practical application in the marketplace.

  • Cost Benefit Analysis
    Course Duration: 3 hours
    Date: Oct 17, 2017   Time: 1 - 3:30 pm   Location: CESC Room 1221

    Course Description: The Cost Benefit Analysis course presents a systematic approach to estimating the strengths and weaknesses of technology alternatives that satisfy agency business requirements. The excel spreadsheet demonstrated is a useful tool to analyze the economic feasibility of a number of alternatives under consideration.

  • Successful Stakeholder Management
    Course Duration: 3 hours
    Date: Oct 19, 2017   Time: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm   Location: CESC Room 1221

    Course Description: A critical aspect of successful projects is successful stakeholder management. It is vitally important for project teams to identify the project stakeholders for the various project phases and their varying degrees of authority, influence and expectations. Project teams must understand the overall stakeholder community and determine the optimum level of effort to allocate to each stakeholder. While many experienced teams seem to achieve this balance intuitively, applying a proven stakeholder management method improves consistency and the probability of successful project outcomes. This course discusses how to identify, analyze and manage stakeholders throughout a project’s lifecycle phases.

  • Project Teambuilding
    Course Duration: 3 hours

    Course Description: The Project teambuilding workshop focuses on simple techniques to enhance team behavior and group dynamics, you will learn easy-to-adopt practices to improve team members’ awareness and accountability, which will result in improved decisions, efficiency and business results.

  • Developing a Project Schedule and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
    Course Duration: 3 hours
    Date: Oct 26, 2017   Time: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm   Location: CESC Room 1221

    Course Description: The Developing a Project Schedule and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) course covers creating project schedules and work breakdown structures, the individual components, and tools and techniques to develop them.

Commonwealth IT Project Manager Overview training will be presented quarterly. All IT project managers and project sponsors of Commonwealth IT projects must attend the Commonwealth IT Project Manager Overview training. There is no pre-qualification test for required training.

The Commonwealth IT Project Manager Overview training addresses the following Policies, Standards and Guidelines (PSGs):

  • Commonwealth Technology Management Policy

  • Commonwealth Project Management Standard

  • Commonwealth Project Management Guideline

  • Commonwealth Project Manager Selection and Training Standard

  • Commonwealth IT Investment Management (ITIM) Standard

  • Commonwealth Enterprise Architecture Standard

Commonwealth IT Project Manager Overview training materials:

Commonwealth IT Program Management Standard training is available on an as-needed basis through the links below. The narrated presentations familiarizes the viewer with IT Program Management concepts, the IT Program Management Standard, and the purpose and value of project and program governance and oversight. It is recommended that individuals and organizations considering an IT Program review the four-part presentation, approximately one hour. Commonwealth Technology Portfolio for Project Managers Training
