The Regional Advisory Council will begin a new term on July 1, 2019.

The purpose of the RAC is to assist the PSC Coordinator with the following:

  • Develop the recommended tasks and actions for the latest 9-1-1 Comprehensive Plan
  • Provide advice on new technologies, technical diversity, operational improvements, and best practices
  • Participate in at least one operational or technical work group
  • Complete work products agreed upon by the RAC
  • Identify ways to improve communications among the Board, ISP staff, and stakeholder communities
  • Support the implementation of NG9-1-1 and increase awareness and support of outreach efforts regarding the entire 9-1-1 ecosystem.

To provide additional information to the 9-1-1 community on this PSC work group, here is a link to the Final Draft Charter.

The RAC was formed in July 2015 in direct response to the PSAP community’s desire for a greater voice, representation, and input into the work plan and program of the 9-1-1- Services Board.  To be successful, the RAC will require qualified and committed regional PSAP representatives.  To this end, interested members of the PSAP community are encouraged to participate in the application and election process.

PSAP employees interested in representing their ISP region on the RAC will need to complete an application process check list, which consists of:

  • A cover letter stating the reasons for interest in serving on the RAC, qualifications, and your assigned ISP region
  • A current resume
  • A letter of intent signed by your agency head acknowledging the commitment of time that serving on the RAC will entail

These items should be sent to me electronically by 5 pm on Friday, May 24th.

Based on the responses received, a slate of candidates will be developed for each ISP region.  The regional slates, with a link to candidates’ material, and a ballot form will be available from the ISP website by 9 am on Friday, May 31st.  PSAPs will have until 5 pm on Friday, June 14th to cast their vote for their regional representative.  The individual with the most votes in each region is the PSAP representative.  The individual with the second highest number of votes is the alternate representative.

Prior to May 31st, the PSC Coordinator will send a follow-up email to the PSAP community with specific instructions on the election process.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, or if I may be of further assistance, please contact Dorothy Spears-Dean dorothy.spearsdean@vita.virginia.gov .
