About VITA Identity Manager (VIM)

VITA Identity Manager (VIM) is VITA's identity management system designed to streamline the creation and administration of user account requests and provide a means for users to securely maintain their own account details.

VIM can be accessed using this link: https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/login.aspx

If you try to gain access to your application and cannot get in using your email address as your username and your previous password, please call the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

What does VITA Identity Manager (VIM) do for me?

Most importantly, VIM allows you to request an account as well as electronic access to certain VIM-enabled applications without having to contact the the business owner and/or the VCCC. In addition, VIM provides self-service to allow the user to update account information such as their email and contact information.

Currently, you need only one VIM account to access the following VIM-enabled applications:

To request a VIM account for the first time, click here: https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/external/newaccountregistration.aspx. The tool will guide you through the steps to create your account profile and submit the request.

If you already have a VIM account and wish to request access to a VIM-enabled website or application, logon to VIM, at https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/login.aspx and select the application that you would like access. VIM will guide you through the access request process. Permissions to the application are authorized by the application owner.

  1. How do I request a VITA Identity Manager (VIM) account?

    To request a VIM account for the first time, visit the homepage of the application you wish to access and look for the VIM toolbar or go directly the VIM tool https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/login.aspx. The toolbar will guide you through the steps to create your account profile, answer two security questions and submit the request. Once your VIM account is approved and active, you will still need to request access for any additional individual application accounts.

  2. I tried to request a new account, but it says I already have an account. But I don't recall asking for a VIM account. What do I do?

    • If you are a Commonwealth of Virginia employee, please contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or by email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

    • If you are a not a Commonwealth of Virginia employee, go to “Forgot My Password” in VIM using your email account. If logging on with this information does not work or you cannot remember if you had a VIM account or what you used for your email, please contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or via email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

  3. How do I know if I already have a VITA Identity Manager (VIM) account?

    • If you are a Commonwealth of Virginia employee, please contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or by email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

    • If you are a not a Commonwealth of Virginia employee, go to “Forgot My Password” in VIM using your email account. If logging on with this information does not work or you cannot remember if you had a VIM account or what you used for your email, please contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or via email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

  4. What do I do if I have forgotten my password?

    • If you have registered with a general email account like yahoo.com or g-mail, you can use the VIM tool to find out your password if you have an active registered account. If you registered already, then VIM has on file two security questions to authenticate your identity. Visit https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/login.aspx to access the Profile Manager and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your user name or email address. If you have not yet registered your security questions, you cannot find out/reset your password online. Please call the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482.

    • If you used a Commonwealth of Virginia Employee email account for VIM and have been transformed, you cannot use VIM to find your forgotten password. Because your Commonwealth of Virginia employee and new VIM password are synched, you have several options to find out your password. You can contact the VCCC by calling them at 1-(866)-637-8482, emailing them at vccc@vita.virginia.gov or using the VSM Portal to open a ticket.

      If you have registered your COV account via the Password Registration app, there is a fourth method. You can go directly to https://covpassword.vita.virginia.gov/default.aspx and enter in your Commonwealth of Virginia employee email and then answer your security questions. (NOTE: This is only if you have registered your security questions.)

    • If you have a Commonwealth of Virginia employee email account but are not transformed or have registered with a publicly-available email account like yahoo.com or g-mail, then you can use the VIM tool to find out your password if you have an active registered account. If you registered already, then VIM has on file two security questions to authenticate your identity. Visit https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/login.aspx to access the profile manager and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your user name or email address. If you have not yet registered your security questions, you cannot find out/reset your password online. Please call the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482.

  5. What do I do if I have forgotten my user ID?

    • If you have a Commonwealth of Virginia employee email account, but the logon does not appear to work, or if you have multiple Commonwealth of Virginia employee accounts and you can't remember your Commonwealth of Virginia employee email, contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or by email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

    • If you do not have a Commonwealth of Virginia employee email account and do not remember what email account you registered with, please request a new VIM account. It will tell you if the account already exists. If it does, then proceed to "Forgot my Password" and it will step you through the process to reset your password.

  6. How do I reset my VITA Identity Manager (VIM) password?

    • If you are have registered with a publically available email account like yahoo.com or g-mail, then you will use the VIM toolbar to change your password. VIM uses two security questions to authenticate your identity. The VIM profile manager is used to change passwords, as well as resolve forgotten passwords for external, general public users and non transformed Commonwealth of Virginia employee users. Visit https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/external/resetpasswordsignon.aspx to access the Profile Manager and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your user name (email address).

    • If you have a Commonwealth of Virginia Employee email registered for a VIM account and have been transformed, you will not use VIM to update your password. Because your Commonwealth of Virginia employee and new VIM passwords are synched, you have several options to change your password. You can change your password while logged into your workstation and on the network -- use Ctrl, Alt, Del and choose "Change Password." This will update your Commonwealth of Virginia employee password and it will be synched over to the new system. You can also use Password Rest app. Or you may contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or by email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov.

    • If you have a Commonwealth of Virginia Employee email account but are not transformed then you will use the VIM toolbar to change your password. VIM uses two security questions to authenticate your identity. The VIM profile manager is used to change passwords, as well as resolve forgotten passwords for external, general public users and non-transformed Commonwealth of Virginia employee users. Visit https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/external/resetpasswordsignon.aspx to access the profile manager and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your user name (email address).

  7. How do I update my VITA Identity Manager (VIM) user information?

    The VIM Profile Manager is also used to update your user account profile. Your account profile consists of your first name, last name, email address, telephone number and two security questions. You will be asked to confirm your email address each time you enter the Profile Manager.

    Visit https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/UpdateAccount.aspx to access the profile manager and follow the on-screen instructions to update this information.

  8. I already have a VITA Identity Manager (VIM) account. How do I request access to another website or application?

    You will use the same VIM account and password to access many of the VIM-enabled applications, once authorized to do so by the application owner. If you need to access a different application, and you already have a VIM account, simply visit the homepage of the application you wish to access. Look for the VIM toolbar on your application or go directly to the VIM tool https://accessidm.vita.virginia.gov/externalauth/login.aspx. The tool will guide you through the application access request process. You will be notified via email once the application owner authorizes access to the application.

  9. I tried to use VIM to reset a forgotten password, but I received an error. What should I do?

    To reset a forgotten password, the VIM account must be registered and two security questions must be set up. If they were not set up, you will receive an error when trying to do a forgotten password inquiry. Please contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or by email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov. Please indicate whether you have a Commonwealth of Virginia employee email or a general user email registered with VIM. Once the VCCC resets your password, the first time you logon, you will be required to set up two security questions that will enable the "Forgot My Password" feature.

  10. I tried to use the self-service features, but I still cannot login. What should I do?

    If you are unable to use any of the self-service features, or if you are not sure if you have a VIM account, contact the VCCC at 1-(866)-637-8482 or by email at vccc@vita.virginia.gov

  11. I am a transformed COV user and I reset my password in VIM previously but now I can't seem to logon. What should I do?

    If you are transformed Commonwealth of Virginia Employee user and you changed your VIM password in VIM, your regular Commonwealth of Virginia Employee account and VIM account password are out of sync.

    You should always update your VIM password if you used your Commonwealth of Virginia Employee email account using the VCCC, online Password Reset tool, or your desktop. Your work Commonwealth of Virginia Employee account is synched with your VIM account when it is changed using that method.
