The Center for Digital Government has awarded Mike Watson the Cybersecurity Leadership and Innovation Award for an individual in state government. Watson is chief information security officer (CISO) of the commonwealth and deputy chief information officer (CIO) at VITA. He received the award based on his leadership, creativity, use of technology and impact of his efforts on state government. He oversees cybersecurity efforts to combat attacks, follow national standards, and enhance state standards and procedures. He also developed a method to determine systems at risk and how to alleviate those risks and advanced training for agency security officers.
