Date Posted: Tuesday, January 27, 2015

At the July 10, 2014 E-911 Services Board meeting, a Text-to-911 subcommittee was formed to evaluate the feasibility of texting to 9-1-1 as a statewide initiative. The subcommittee was tasked with reviewing and making recommendations based on the following: current technologies available; the pros and cons of the technology; the potential local costs; deployment plans that have been tested; and lessons learned from other localities. Over the last five months, the subcommittee developed a white paper detailing the steps necessary to ensure that Text-to-911 is available universally to all citizens throughout the commonwealth. On Jan. 8, at the board meeting, the following report was approved.
